In the book of Proverbs, we read that where there is no vision the people perish. Vision is an absolute necessity if one is to accomplish anything worthwhile in life. Without vision, there is no goal. Without a goal, there is no purpose. Having a vision for the future is like having a target you do not intend to miss. Like a marksman taking careful aim at his target, we too must take careful aim if we are to accomplish great things for the Lord.
There are
various goals we should take careful aim at. One is increasing our
relationships with one another. The only way this can be accomplished is
through effective communication with each other. We can do this in a variety of
ways including phone calls, personal visits, and through the positive side of
social media.
Equally, we
grow in our relationship with one another through worshipping God together. The
Hebrew writer stated, “…not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together,
as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as
you see the Day approaching.” (Hebrews 10:25)
Another growth
target we must take careful aim at is our daily intake of God’s word. Peter
refers to this as the “pure milk of the word” (1Peter 2:1). The Hebrew writer
calls it the “meat of the word” (Hebrews 5:12-14). This meat belongs to those
whose senses are exercised to discern between good and evil.
We set aside
several times a day for our physical nourishment. We know how important food is
to our human body. What too easily is overlooked is the importance of our
spiritual nourishment. We take aim by setting aside time to read and meditate
on God’s word. The more we do, the stronger we will be spiritually.
Finally, we
must make a Christ-like spirit a growth target if we are to truly be like Him.
John wrote, “He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He
walked.” (1 John 2:6)
We look to
Jesus as our ultimate example to follow. We make it our aim to be like Him in
our words and in our conduct. Granted, we know we will still be faced with our
own frailties. However, through His strength we can overcome. When we fall, we
repent, get up, and go again. Our aim to be like Christ remains unchanged.
These growth
targets are but a few to aim towards. These are important to bear in mind
especially when we consider our ultimate goal of heaven itself. When we make
heaven our aim, we focus, and execute properly, we know that we are on the
right path that leads us home.
God Bless each
of you,
